The author spends a lot of time setting the scene, he talks about what Israel was like and briefly goes into who the political players were but the most important part of the book is when he discusses the attitudes and actions of the people involved. The innocence of the apostles, the guilt, jealousy and hopelessness of Judas, and the casually brutality of the Romans are all brought to life. This is a highly intellectual book that ought to be read slowly so you can fully understand some of the intricate things the author is saying.
